Entry Regulations

A valid passport is required for all travelers entering Japan. Depending on your nationality, a visa may or may not be required. Many countries, including the United States, Canada, and most European nations, are eligible for visa-free short-term stays for tourism purposes.

Articles Not Allowed for Entering Japan

The following articles are prohibited from being brought into Japan:

Counterfeit currency, forged documents, or securities

Materials that may be considered harmful to public safety or national security

Certain food products, plants, animals, and agricultural items without proper declaration

Hazardous chemicals, poisons, and dangerous substances

Travelers should be aware that Japan has strict regulations on medications, and some common prescriptions in other countries may be restricted. It is recommended to check in advance if you plan to bring medication into Japan.

Exit Regulations

Travelers wishing to take certain cultural items, antiques, or restricted goods out of Japan may need to declare them at customs. Some items may require official approval before export.

It is advisable to keep receipts for high-value purchases, especially for tax-free items, as customs officers may request verification upon departure.
